- Thimjo Kondi
Thimjo Kondi is the chair of the High Court of the Republic of
Albania . He was appointed to this position in 1999, after having served as Minister of Justice since 1997. Earlier he had also been a member of the Albanian Constitutional Court. His term on the High Court expires in 2008.As Chair of the High Court, Thimjo Kondi is also Chair of the Albanian National Judicial Conference and a member of the High Council of Justice. He serves "ex officio" on the Board of Directors of the Albanian School of Magistrates, the institution responsible for training the country's judiciary.
During his time in office, Thimjo Kondi has been widely praised for his relations with international organizations and has received at least one major award from the
American Bar Association Central and Eastern European Law Initiative (ABA-CEELI), now the Rule of Law Initative (ABA-ROLI). He also has been criticized by many Albanians for amassing too much power for himself and excluding other judges from participation in decision-making bodies.
