George Butler Terrell (
December 5 ,1862 -April 18 ,1947 ) was a U.S. Representative fromTexas .Born in
Alto, Texas , Terrell attended the public schools, Sam Houston Teachers' College,Huntsville, Texas , andBaylor University ,Waco, Texas .He taught school inCherokee County, Texas from 1886 to 1903.He served as member of the State teachers' examining board in 1897 and 1902, and of the State textbook commission in 1903.He engaged in agricultural pursuits and in stock raising nearAlto, Texas , in 1903.He served as member of the State house of representatives 1898-1902 from 1906 to 1912 from 1916 to 1920 from 1930 to 1932.Terrell was elected commissioner of agriculture of Texas in 1920, serving by reelection until 1931.
Terrell was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress (
March 4 ,1933 -January 3 ,1935 ).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1934.He resumed agricultural pursuits and resided atAlto, Texas , until his death there onApril 18 ,1947 .He was interred in the Old Palestine Cemetery, nearAlto, Texas .ource
