Albert Duane Shaw (
December 21 ,1841 -February 10 ,1901 ) was a U.S. Representative fromNew York .Born in
Lyme, New York , Shaw attended Belleville and Union Academies and St.Lawrence University ,Canton, New York . Enlisted as a private in Company A, Thirty-fifth Regiment, New York Volunteers, in June 1861 and served out the term of enlistment.He was appointed a special agent of the War Department in 1863, stationed at provost marshal's headquarters inWatertown, New York , and served until the close of the war.He served as member of the State assembly in 1866.He was appointed colonel of the Thirty-sixth Regiment, New York National Guard, in 1867, and resigned to accept the position of United States consul at Toronto, Canada, in 1868.He was promoted to United States consul atManchester, England , in 1878.Shaw was elected department commander of the Grand Army of the Republic of New York in 1896. Unanimously elected commander in chief at the national encampment in 1899.
Shaw was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Charles A. Chickering.He was reelected to the Fifty-seventh Congress and served from
November 6 ,1900 , until his death inWashington, D.C. , onFebruary 10 ,1901 , before the close of the Fifty-sixth Congress.He was interred in Brookside Cemetery,Watertown, New York .ource
