Danjin Spear

Danjin Spear

Danjin Spear is a major character in the Age of the Five series of novels by Trudi Canavan.

Spear's role in the novels is as the Advisor to The White, firstly to Auraya, then to Ellareen. He was born into a rich family who regard religion as ‘a basic necessity not worth making a fuss over’- in contrast to Danjin himself. He is married and has grown children (in the third book he has grandchildren). He is 51 years old in the first novel.

His personality is thoughtful and reflective, which suits his purpose both as Advisor to the White, and has one of the main narrators of the story. This is especially notable in the third book, where he narrates all of Ellareens’ involvement in Dunway. He is very religious, particularly in contrast to the rest of his family, but has ‘no desire to join the priesthood.’

His career involved minor services as a translator, and Advisor to the White is his most prestigious job yet. In the books he mostly serves as a narrator, although has some unexpected aspects of his personality come out. He respects Mirars alternate personality Leiard, despite his being a Dreamweaver; he comes to grow apprehensive of Ellareen even though she is a White appointed by the Gods, and is generally shown to be more flexible and tolerant than most Circlians.
