Bill Garcia is a veteran of Chicago radio, and has worked at many Chicago radio stations including a stint at WLS as a talk-show host,
WJMK , andWFYR . He was also honored as the Midday Personality of the Year at the 2000 Achievement in Radio (AIR) Awards.Bill was born just outside Houston, in Bryan Texas, and began his radio career in his junior year of High School. Bill hosted his first request show on "Teen Time" on KORA-AM. The owners of KORA were impressed and asked Bill to stay on after High School and remained there to support his way through college. He went on to later become the Program Director and Operations Manager at KORA-AM.
An offer from KULF (CHR) in Houston sent Bill to the big city where he had an on air shift which brought him National attention. While working the afternoon drive position at Big WAYS(WAYS)in Charlotte NC, he met WAYS morning personality Robert Murphy, aka "Murphy in the Morning" who later went to Chicago and did mornings at
WKQX-FM .Bill took a leave from the airwaves when he accepted the offer of General Manager at the cross town station, WDEX. While at WDEX, a Nationwide search was formed to replace popular morning DJ, Gary Dee at Cleveland Ohio's WHK. Bill was offered this prestigious position and moved to Cleveland where he performed morning show duties.
WHK was where Bill hired a "punk kid" named [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0642591/ Dan O'Shannon] . Years later, Dan's writing would earn him an Oscar nomination, and an
Emmy . He is probably best known for producing four years of "Cheers " and being the Executive Producer of "Frasier ". Dan is currently Co-Executive Producer of "Back To You " TV Show.WHK gave Bill his first stint in country music. "The Bill Garcia" show drew attention in the country music industry. Chicago's country music powerhouse, US99 General Manager, Drew Horowitz flew to Cleveland where he invited Bill to be his afternoon drive personality. Bill was on afternoons at US99 until a change in ownership led him to music station WLS in Chicago. Shortly after his arrival, WLS switched from music and Bill became one of first talk show hosts at the new talk station.
An offer from WFYR moved Bill back to music, at that time one of Chicago's oldies station. Oldies were good to Bill, and he also worked at Chicago's Magic 104(WJMK). Bill, a resident of the northwest suburbs, is on the Board of Governors for the March of Dimes and is also active in many other charitable organizations.
