HMS Ajax (1798)

HMS "Ajax" was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 3 March 1798. She fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. During the battle she assisted "Orion" in forcing the surrender of the French seventy-four "Intrépide".

When part of the squadron under Admiral Sir John Duckworth in the Dardanelles Operation, "Ajax" was destroyed in an accidental fire on 14 February prior to the Action of 19 February 1807. [p.188, Brenton for description]
