About

Initiative for Democracy in Iran (Initiative-Iran) is a politically and ideologically independent non-profit humanitarian-political organisation. The organisation was founded in September 2006 in Sweden by a group of young individuals who wanted to establish a central organisation with the main goal to work for a democratic development in Iran. Initiative-Iran builds its work on the principle of every human beings equal value and equal rights regardless of gender, sexuality and ethnical, religious or ideological background.

Activity

Initiative-Iran strives to conduct a balanced debate regarding the many issues of the democratic development in Iran and to collaborate with other organisations who are engaged in these matters. Therefore Initiative-Iran functions not as an isolated organisation but instead as a body which affiliates itself with other democratic organisations with the purpose of bringing together a united and effective voice. In this manner Initiative-Iran wants to support all major democratic voices who emphasize human rights both within and outside of Iran.

Main Goal

Initiative-Irans’s most fundamental goal is that Iran evolves into a country where every human being living under its constitution has the freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of assembly, freedom to information, freedom to demonstrate, freedom of establishing organisations and freedom of religion. These liberties are fundamental necessities in order for people to be able to influence political decisions and to shape their society and destiny.
