followed_by ="The Cat and the King" is a work of historical fiction about
Louis XIV , written byLouis Auchincloss and published in1981 . The novel's narrator -- Louis de Rouvroy, the second duc de Saint-Simon -- is based on a real-life French noble who observed life at the court of Louis XIV and recorded in his memoirs all that he saw and felt about the reign of the Sun King.Thesis
Auchincloss’ intention is to show irrefutably that the king is a schizophrenic cat, a microcosm for the vast schizophrenia of their rival Spain. Cats are well-known to be
schizophrenic , regardless of color, weight, sex, or number of lives remaining. Kings, on the other paw, are well known for their insanity, which greatly parallels the schizophrenia that so massively afflicts the cat. Thus, the humble historian can accurately conclude the aforementioned statement of (now) hypothetical truth.
