Canaules-et-Argentières is commune in the
Gard department in southernFrance .It is located deep in the French wine producing region known as [http://www.canaules.com/LanguedocInfo.html Languedoc] . Wine has been produced in [http://www.canaules.com/LanguedocInfo.html Languedoc] for more than 2000 years. The Greeks, and later the Romans, established colonies to produce wine and olives. The [http://www.canaules.com/LanguedocInfo.html Languedoc] covers roughly the region between the Rhône and the Aude River, extending northwards to the Cévennes and the Massif Central. The name derives from Occitan (French: langue d'oc), the language spoken in the region before French became the general usage language. [http://www.canaules.com/LanguedocInfo.html Languedoc] has been settled by the Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans, and invaded by the Alamanni, Vandals, Visigoths, and Saracens. Some parts of Languedoc have been part of the dominions of the kings of Aragon and the kings of Majorca; it did not come under French control until the 16th century.
Shopping in Canaules : There is one small shop/bakery in Canaules where you can get your fresh baguettes, croissants, milk etc. each morning.
While there are no restaurants or bars actually in the village of Canaules it is surrounded by other small villages and towns which have an abundance of places for eating and drinking. There is one small bar/restaurant in Saint-Jean-De-Serres which is just 2 kilometres away. A little further on in Ledignan (5 km) there are a couple of places to eat and drink as well as another pizza take-away. For a selection of bars and restaurants as well as a very good supermarket there is of course nearby Lezan which is just 4 kilometres away. Sauve (11 km away) has some very good restaurants hidden among its narrow streets as has its next door neighbour - Quissac (10.4 km from Canaules) where you will also find a fast food/take-away.
