David R. Wells Jr, also known as Dino Wells (November 3, 1970) is an actor, writer, professional boxer and filmmaker, who has appeared in Prison Break TV series. The sole purpose of Dino Wells boxing comeback is to be a better father to his 5 children, show the world that you can do what you want by perseverance, dedication, fortitude and being resilient. Dino want to help people overcome certain adversity similar to what he's been through and at 40 years old nothing will stop him to achieve his ultimate goals being a world champion boxer, stellar screenwriter, and director.
Dino, born in Chicago and raised in New Orleans & Eufaula, Alabama is known as "The Lethal Warrior", a former amateur boxing phenom from the early 90's, having an outstanding record of 60 plus official wins and 13 losses. He was a runner up in the CYO boxing tournament Chicago, runner-up in the National Pals, runner up in the Golden Gloves, silver medalist in the Georgia State Games in 1995, and lost in the 1996 Olympic Prelims. He's a man that losing was a trend and catapulted a downfall which eventually took him out of boxing. His downfall starting after losing his oldest son to his mother’s custody in 1996.
Dino was upset with himself by allowing his hardships to get the best of him. While the drama of the streets, being a low level street thug and dealer. He has a failed marriage with the mother of his two oldest children, then having 3 other kids by two women outside of his marriage and allowing negativity from some women he's dated, who didn't see his goals and desires, get him down. Dino, in his 15 year absence of boxing, tried his hands in the entertainment business working on numerous TV shows, music videos, and film as either actor or set PA. His career took a sudden halt after a near fatal bout of depression.
Dino aspires to be a respected writer and director in the film business. Dino's latest work came by way of the Independent Spirit Awards and the Turner Classic Movie festival via Jason Bucy's hiring him on board the prestigious shows. The Spirit Awards is where Dino met up with upcoming director, Brad Bores http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3259482/, who also worked the show. He told him of his past history of trials and tribulations, setbacks and downfalls. Brad was compelled by Dino's life story and decided to go deep into his life to bring the documentary, "When the Bell Rings", into productions on a shoe-string budget.
‘When the Bell Rings’ shoot started April 1st with Dino weighing 250 pounds. The road wasn't easy; He tried to get with a few coaches who didn't take him seriously because of his size and lengthy layoff. Phillip Bobo introduced him to Bob Edwards of Sweet Science Boxing Gym. This is where The Lethal Warrior’s rebirth begins.
Phase one and two has all the intense dedication with training and eating habits, letting all the bad things go. Phase three took on a new life in a 2 week road trip to 5 states to meet with Dino's past which was an added blessing to the documentary. Now well into Phase four, which consist of training hard conditioning, now the 190 pound. Phase five will be fine tuning for his first pro fight is set for January 7th 2012. Dino now has a new trainer Henry Wade, training/ sparring with champion prospect Marcus McDaniels. He also has a strength and conditioning coach and dietician to help him get to his desired weight at 168 pounds.
Wells started his film career at the age of twenty-two, though he didn't take his film career serious until 2004 when he landed on the movie Glory Road as John Anderson. He also worked as an additional production assistant on Glory Road. Dino's first TV role was on the show Mama Flora's Family where he was cast as Willie's friend (Willie played by Blair Underwood). Then Dino was a background artist in Scream 2, playing a college student.
