- Arthur Dooley
Arthur Dooley, (17th January 1929 – 7th January 1994) was a British
artist and sculptor. He was born in the city ofLiverpool , Dooley commenced employment as a welder atCammell Laird shipyard inBirkenhead , he also worked at theDunlop factory inSpeke , before his ambition took him to work as a cleaner at St. Martin's School of Art,London , (later incorporated intoCentral Saint Martins College of Art & Design ). He became a student there in 1953 Dooley had his first exhibition at the Gallery of the same name in 1962. His medium was usually scrap metal or bronze. He sculpted mainly religious works including the Risen Christ in theLiverpool Metropolitan Cathedral , The Resurrection of Christ at Princes Park Methodist Church inToxteth and a Madonna and Child at St Faith's Church inCrosby . He also produced a tribute toThe Beatles in Mathew Street,Liverpool , depictingThe Madonna andThe Beatles with the tribute "Four lads who shook the world". His studio inLiverpool was notoriously untidy, and is reportedly untouched since his death.The fifteen Stations of the Cross in St Mary's Church LeylandSources
