- The Sixteen
The Sixteen is an English
choir performing earlyreligious music . It was founded byHarry Christophers in 1977.The Sixteen concentrates on English
polyphony . The membership is drawn largely from former Oxford and Cambridge choral scholars. In 2000 they made a "Choral Pilgrimage", performing early Tudor music in its intended buildings. This has become an annual event, covering over a dozen historical buildings. The ensemble have their own record label, Coro, founded in 2001, and their own orchestra, called "The Symphony of Harmony and Invention". In some contexts the orchestra is called The Sixteen Orchestra. They have bought the rights to their recordings previously issued onCollins Classics .Performances by The Sixteen were featured extensively in the BBC series Sacred Music
