Alton Meister (1922–1995) was an American biochemist who made pioneering contributions on the study of

After gaining his MD he moved to theNational Cancer Institute at theNational Institutes of Health in Bethusda, Maryland. He remained there until 1955 when he moved to the biochemistry department at theTufts University . Meister returned to Cornell in 1967 and served as chairman of the college's biochemistry department until his death in 1995 at the age of 72.
