Edcast "(formerly known as Oddcast)" is an audio encoder that can be used to create Internet streams of varying types. Currently, mp3, ogg vorbis, ogg flac, as well as AAC+ are supported. And this application can be used to stream to both icecast2 and SHOUTcast servers.

Edcast is one of the few (if only) free and open source encoders that is supported (in various forms) on both Windows and Linux platforms. It also will run in conjunction with various media players (Winamp and Foobar2000) as well as a standalone encoder.

Many independent broadcasters (and even commercial ones) use Edcast to create Internet radio stations like the ones found at the [http://dir.xiph.org Icecast] and [http://www.shoutcast.com ShoutCAST] station directories.
