John "Johnny" Anthony Zacchara is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, "General Hospital". Within the series, he is the son of notorious NYC crime lord, Anthony Zacchara, and has become a member of the Zacchara organization. The contract role is portrayed by Brandon Barash.

Character history

Introduction

Johnny is first introduced as a troubled young man, when he meets Lulu Spencer, the girlfriend of Logan Hayes. For years, Johnny has been looked after by lawyer Trevor Lansing, because Johnny witnessed his insane father, Anthony, shoot his mother, Maria. Anthony is now obsessed with keeping his son near him. Lulu continues to interact with the troubled young man, despite disapproval from her friends Jason Morgan and Damian Spinelli.

Mob boss

Johnny sneaks into Nikolas Cassadine's Black and White Ball, as his father is intent on killing Lulu to keep his son from her.Anthony terrorizes the guests, while Diego Alcazar murders Nikolas' fiancée, Emily Quartermaine. After a confrontation with Jason and Elizabeth Webber, Anthony is paralyzed due to a fall, and Johnny takes over as the head of the Zacchara family. Disapproving of the relationship, Trevor tries to have Lulu killed, but Johnny is able to save her. Tensions arise between Johnny, fellow mob boss Sonny Corinthos, and the mysterious Moreau, who is revealed to be Jerry Jacks. After "Moreau", briefly kidnaps Lulu, Johnny is hurt in an explosion. Though Logan objects, Lulu insists on tending to Johnny, leading to Johnny and Lulu admitting their feelings for each other.

War with Sonny Corinthos

Meanwhile, Claudia becomes more involved with the family business. When Logan reveals that he intended to frame Johnny as Emily's killer, Logan and Lulu struggle, and she puts him into a coma by hitting him with a wrench. Johnny and Lulu finally make love on the Haunted Star, and intend to begin a relationship. Before they can go on a date, Sonny has Johnny kidnapped because he mistakenly believe he is responsible for shooting his girlfriend Kate Howard and kidnapping his son Michael, who ran away after accidentally shooting Kate. Though Trevor discovers Johnny is being held in a padded cell, he chooses to leave him there, as Johnny, a talented pianist, composes music for Lulu on its walls.

Sonny learns the truth about his son, but only chooses to release Johnny after making a deal with Claudia for use of crucially important shipping lanes the Zaccharas control. The siblings are reunited in a cannery, but are interrupted by an explosion set by Diego Alcazar.

Return of Anthony

After helping Michael escape from the warehouse, Johnny reunites with Lulu, who ends things with Logan. Claudia and Johnny decide to present a united front to take down their father, who's release from an insane asylum was orchestrated by Sonny's half-brother and enemy Ric Lansing. Believing Lulu can make his son happy, Anthony forces Johnny and Lulu to continue their relationship. Despite tension between Lulu and Claudia, Johnny decides to let his girlfriend help collect information about his father to send him away to prision for good.

Aftermath of Logan's murder

Lulu killed Logan Hayes in self-defense after he busted through Johnny's apartment with an axe after Lulu witnessed him throwing Maxie across Kate's desk. Knowing that Scott Baldwin wouldn't believe that it was self-defense since she had already knocked Logan unconsious with a wrench he said he would take the fall for the murder. Lulu refused but Johnny insisted. Johnny and Claudia worked to cover the murder but the police arrested Johnny. Lulu was having a hard time keeping the secret because she felt so guilty. She started to unravel (People have said she was starting to act like her mother when right before she went insane.) She came to the police station to see Johnny with a gun she took from the Quartermaine mansion. Johnny grabbed the gun and held it to her head, pretending to take her hostage. They escaped the police station, took the mayor's car, and drove off. They ditched the car and went into hiding in the home of Johnny's old piano teacher (who they later found out died a few months ago) as Joe Carpenter and Linda. He is giving piano lessons to the sister of one of the tenents who lives downstairs, Lourdes. When Lourdes turns on the tv and sees pictures of Johnny and Lulu on the news it appears their coverage might be blown, but Lourdes keeps quiet. Later, Johnny found out that Lourdes' and Sal's father was killed by a member of the Zacchara organization. When Johnny finds out about Lulu's hallucinations, he calls Claudia and asks her to find out what happened to her mother from Nikolas Cassadine. Johnny then takes Lulu to shadybrook for treatment, there they run into Scott Baldwin and the police who apprehend Johnny. It is a remake of the scene of when Laura sank into catatonia in 2002 and she was dragged away by the workers at Shadybrook and Luke was held back. Johnny was held back by the cops while Lulu was dragged into Shadybrook. He currently is on trial for the murder.

Johnny was found not guilty of all charges on September 16, 2008.

Lulu

Lulu starts to see hallucinations again and she sees a note on her lunch tray saying "You killed Logan and now you will pay". Lulu calls Johnny and he comes over but the note is not there. Lulu sees the Johnny is having trouble believing her and she loses it and starts thrashing and screaming. She is carted off to isolation with Johnny witnessing that through horrified eyes.

Later, Johnny goes to his father and breaks down in tears in front of him, realizing it was his fault that Lulu is in the shape she is in. He says he will accept his fate and become a full fledged mobster. Anthony is moved by Johnny's tears and comforts him in his own way.

The moments are over when Johnny discovers the Russian rifle that Anthony shot Kate with.
