Hilary Simon

Hilary Simon is a pionering British born silk painter, one of the top in her field in Europe and has achieved global success, famed for her innovative development of techniques on silk and her highly fascinating and unusual choice of subject, which in recent years has been strongly influnced by Central America. She became a household name by 30. Hilary is renouned for her collaborations. One of her most notable painting 'rice fields' has used in 2007 as a limited edition collectors cover for One hundred years of solitude by the Nobel prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Early life

Hilary Simon was born number five in a family of eight brothers and sisters. She was strong minded from a young age, picking out her outfit for the day at age 3. Hilary attended a variety of boarding schools growing up, finally settling on St Georges where she achieved great success graduating with ten 'O' levels.

Career in theatre and film

After leaving home at 16, Hilary attended Croydon Art College where she began by studying fashion. This, however, did not agree with her and she swiftly moved to Harrow Art College where she studied alongside many other upcoming designers. After finishing her foundation year with distinction, she followed up her studying with a degree in theatre design. Hilary finally settled on costume and after working on numerous theatre productions, she finally made the transition to film, starting with Sweet William in 1980.

Trivia

Hilary was initially offered the position of wardrobe mistress on My Beautiful Laundrette. However, due to the birth of her first child Francesca Simon Millar in 1985, she turned down the opportunity.

Francesca Simon Millar is a budding actress. There are rumours that she is set to star in the next Marks & Spencers advert alongside Twiggy. She is a mother of two and currently expecting her third child in late January 2008. HELLO! magazine have linked Francesca to the notorious Essex playboy Matthew Moreton. The pair have been spotted eating in rumours fashionable locations around London.

After having a life long passion for salsa dancing, Hilary decided to spend 9 months in 1998 traveling around South America.

She is an active member of the Chelsea Arts Club
