In addition to the home delivery service and significantly larger library of titles available to members, a major attraction of the service is that members are able to keep their rented DVDs as long as they want, with no late fees or due dates. This is seen as an advantage due to the popularity of DVD box sets which contain entire series or seasons of popular
television program s, requiring longer viewing times.Selection and distribution of DVDs
Quickflix has distribution centres in Perth,
Adelaide ,Melbourne ,Sydney and theGold Coast . It posts over 100,000 DVDs per month to its members, and has delivered more than two million DVDs since its inception.A popular feature offered by Quickflix is the ability for its members to become 'movie critics' via star ratings and reviews. These ratings are then combined to give an average star rating which then assists other members with their selection.
A unique feature to Quickflix is its 'Movie Selector'. This feature assists members by automatically giving them suggestions. Through the viewing preferences that members provide, combined with rental habits and movie ratings, Quickflix builds a profile of what they like and what they don't. After choosing the movies members wish to view, a "queue" of DVDs is created, and the first available of those DVDs are mailed out to members. They are notified by
e-mail when DVDs are sent. All DVDs are protected against damage in transit, sealed and packaged with a return-envelope when they are sent out to members. When members are finished with the DVD, they receive the next DVD on their "queue" by returning the DVD in the reply paid envelope which came with the DVD. To ensure this process is as efficient as possible members can pre-notify Quickflix 1 day after DVDs have been posted. Once notified Quickflix will post the next available DVD on the members queue.
According to Quickflix the most popular way members rent movies is by posting recently viewed movies early to mid week ensuring they receive their next available 'queued' movies in time for the weekend.
Plans and subscriptions
The company provides a range of pricing plans which differ according to the number of DVDs allowed out at the same time, and how many movies in total can be rented during each month. The company also makes extensive use of free trial periods (of between two weeks and one month).
As of 2008 , monthly prices ranged from $9.95 for 1 DVD at a time with only 2 DVDs allowed out per month, to $56.95 for 5 DVDs at a time, with no limit on the number of rentals per month. Currently the most popular plan is 3 DVDs at a time with no limit, for $36.95 monthly, this plan drops to $32.95/month if members commit to a 12 month plan. This equates to $3 (Or $2.75 on the 12 month plan) per movie assuming members rent 3 movies per week.References
