Tsubasa Andō

Background

Tsubasa Andō is a middle school student with the Alice of manipulating shadows. He is pretty popular with the special abilities class although students in other classes seem to dislike him and at times refer to him as 'the middle school's loser'. He has a reputation of being a trouble-maker in the past, so he was marked with a "Mark of Obedience" in the shape of a star on his left cheek; he now behaves. The only one who can remove it is the person who put it and he has to follow that person.

It was revealed that Rui is the person who gave Tsubasa the star on his cheek, but when he was young, Rui actually gave him 3 stars on his cheek. This is why he may be one of the only students who really understands Natsume's rebellion against the Academy and his wish of freedom.

He's close to everyone in the Special Ability Class. He also takes good care of Mikan and protects her from harm. He is the senpai that Mikan can rely on. He's also a member of the "Watching Over Ruka group" along with Misaki. He is one of the few people who knows Natsume's and Ruka's feelings for Mikan. He seems to enjoy teasing the boys by making them jealous.

He was once in Special Ability Class. But in the recent chapters of the manga, it is revealed that he was transferred to the Dangerous Ability Class. He keeps this a secret from Mikan because he fears that if she finds out, she would blame herself for his transfer and he would not be able to face her then. It was Luna that caused him to get transferred to the Dangerous Ability Class. Also, he seems to be doing missions like Natsume, but these missions seem to involve finding and capturing Yuka Azumi, Mikan's mother.

Tsubasa gets severely injured after a failed mission where he was assigned to handle it along with Natsume and other members of the Dangerous Ability Class. When Mikan finds out about his condition and transfer to the Dangerous Ability Class, she starts to worry about him and cries for his sake. He is currently missing.

Personality

He is a pretty sociable guy and he gets along with others well. He cares for his friends very much and looks after them. He doesn't seem to care about the rules of the school. He has been labeled as a trouble-maker in school, which earned him a "Mark of Obedience" on his left cheek. He also addresses some teachers casually. He possesses a great sense of humor and he likes to tease people, especially Ruka and Natsume. He is a perceptive young man, with amazing skills in using his Alice. According to Misaki Harada, Tsubasa is a playboy. But he doesn't seem to flirt with other girls.

Relationships

Mikan Sakura

Tsubasa is actually Mikan's first senpai. He first met Mikan when he saved her from some middle school bullies. Tsubasa is more like an older brother to Mikan and he's very close to her. Mikan usually clings to him when she's depressed especially if Natsume does or says something bad to her. Tsubasa cares for Mikan a lot and he's willing to protect her from any danger. Since Tsubasa is doing missions involving Mikan's mother, he keeps it a secret from her. He doesn't want to upset her, because Mikan would surely blame herself for his transfer to the Dangerous Ability Class.

Since Tsubasa is aware of Natsume's and Ruka's feelings for his little kouhai, he sometimes teases the two by being so close to Mikan. He never fails to get their attention, and Mikan is oblivious of his intentions of making the boys jealous.

When Mikan finds out about his transfer to the Dangerous Ability Class, she gets upset and starts to worry about him. She even cries for his sake, as she remembers the good times she spent with him.

In Radio Drama, Mikan fell in love with Tsubasa because of the effect of the Love Potion made by Nonoko. Tsubasa tried to get a hold of another potion from Nonoko to use it on Mikan so she could fall in love with Ruka instead.

Misaki Harada

Tsubasa has a crush on Misaki, his close friend since Elementary school. He has made many hints to ask her out but has either been rejected or ignored. In the manga, when Mikan asked Tsubasa and Misaki if they are dating, Tsubasa said yes, but Misaki said, "Me and Tsubasa a couple? No way." In addition, Mikan saw that Tsubasa was disappointed to what Misaki said. Because of their closeness, they are believed to be more than friends. Tsubasa and Misaki are also partners for the 'Last Dance' of the Alice Academy. According to Nonoko and Anna, they act like a married couple.

One time, on Valentines Day, Tsubasa was forcefully fed a chocolate containing love potion making him temporarily fall for another girl. Misaki has not given him chocolate since and has even ignored his hints of wishing to swap Alice stones.

Kaname Sonō

Tsubasa got in trouble once because he was trying to protect Kaname. He told Kaname to stop using his Alice, because his Alice shortens his lifespan. Despite this, he still makes dolls, for it's his way of proving to himself that he can make people happy. And the dolls he made serve as 'evidences of his existence'. He is also the creator of Mr. Bear. Knowing this, Tsubasa did not stop him but he is still worried about him.

Alice

Tsubasa has the Shadow Manipulation Alice. His Alice allows him to stop the movements of a person or object just by stepping on the shadow. He could also make the person do whatever he wants just by writing the command on the shadow. Tono once said that Tsubasa had the skill of a Triple Star, but because of his 'Mark of Obedience', his star-rank decreased.

He once belong to the Special Ability Class, but now he is in the Dangerous Ability because of Luna.
