The Caproni-Vizzola F.5 was an Italian fighter aircraft built by Caproni. It was a single-seat cantilever low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear.

Development

The F.5 and the F.4 were developed in parallel, and shared a common airframe. Delays in the F.4 production meant that the F.5 prototype was the first to fly. After testing, 14 pre-production F.5s were ordered. No production models were built as the company decided to produce the more developed F.6 model. It was offered to foreign customers, and has been said that Aeroplani Caproni subsidiary in Perú adquired the license rights for local manufacture, which never took place.

Variants

The F.4 model was designed with an 664 kW (890 hp) Isotta-Fraschini Asso 121 RC 40 inline engine , but this was changed to a more powerful German Daimler-Benz DB 601A, causing delays in the prototypes construction.
