St. John Armenian Church (Southfield, Michigan)

St. John Armenian Church is located at 22001 Northwestern Highway in the Metro Detroit suburb of Southfield, Michigan. The parish dates back to 1909 but its first church building, in Highland Park was consecrated 1931. In the early 1960s the parish moved to Southfield and its new building was completed in 1968 and designed by architect Suren Pilafian. The church is noted for its stained glass, Cite book|author=Tutag, Nola Huse with Lucy Hamilton|title=Discovering Stained Glass in Detroit|publisher=Wayne State University Press|year=1988|id=ISBN 0-8143-1875-4, p. 99.] as well as its gold dome which is a landmark for area motorists as it stands at the intersection of Northwestern Highway and the Southfield Freeway/Southfield Road. The building of the church was largely funded by parish member and noted Armenian-American businessman-philanthropist Alex Manoogian.
