census GR|2 of 2000, there were 16,774 people and 7,344 households residing in the neighborhood. Thepopulation density was 3,987/mi². The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 75.6% White, 10.7% African American,less than 1% Native American, 5.2% Asian, 2.7% from other races, and 4.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were about 14% of the population.There were 7,344 households out of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.2% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 1% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals.
In the neighborhood the population was spread out with 23% under the age of 18, 28% from 18 to 34, 16% from 35 to 49, 14% from 50 to 64, and 9% who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 100 males.
