2007 AFL Rising Star

The NAB Rising Star award is given annually to a standout young player in the Australian Football League. It was previously known as the Norwich Rising Star award and first began in 1993. As of 2007, the winner is presented with the Ron Evans Medal.

Eligibility and Nominations

Every round, an Australian Football League rising star nomination is given to a standout young player. To be eligible for the award, a player must be under 21 on January 1 of that year, have played 10 or fewer senior games and not been suspended during the season. At the end of the year, one of the 22 nominees is the winner of award.

Joel Selwood of Geelong was declared winner of the 2007 AFL Rising Star after scoring a nearly perfect score from the selection panel (44 votes out of a possible 45). This made him the first recipient of the Ron Evans Medal. Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury came in second with 37 votes, and Nathan Jones of Melbourne came in a distant third with 17 votes.
