website = http://www.willycon.comWillyCon is a regional science fiction and fantasy convention founded in
1999 and has been held annually ever since. It is a general interest convention promotingscience fiction ,fantasy , andfandom in general. The convention is run by the [http://wildcat.wsc.edu/clubs/sfclub/ Science Fiction and Fantasy Club] ofWayne State College (WSC).While WillyCon is not in a class with
Worldcon , it is a small, fun convention that has a variety of activities going on. It is the longest running fan-run convention of this type in northeastNebraska . Small cons have a different feel than the larger cons, ie.,Windycon ,Westercon , etc., but they can be just as rewarding. Usually the attendees get a chance to interact with the Guest(s) of Honor (GoH) on a more personal level, and there is not the feeling of being “rushed” to see or do everything possible for the weekend. One thing WillyCon does different than many other cons is to hold a short-story contest in conjunction with its other activities. In addition to traditional con activities, WillyCon and its parent organization (the SF & F Club of Wayne State College) has a short-story & poetry contest inviting
speculative fiction to be submitted and winners are published on an [http://wildcat.wsc.edu/clubs/willycon/zine/ E-Zine of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror] . E-zines are online magazines that cater to a niche or special interest subject matter. In this case, prose or poetry in the genres of fantasy, horror, or science fiction are the subject matter. If you have an interest in science fiction and/or fantasy but have never attended a convention for either genre, you should consider attending one in the near future. There are conventions held world-wide and of all sizes, so one is likely to be within driving distance of your location. Try one and see what it is about!See also
