The carpet manufacturer Ruckstuhl, based in Langenthal, Switzerland is a producer of high-quality carpets made from natural fibres that has made itself a name on an international scale for the furnishing of flooring textiles both in domestic and in business settings. Ruckstuhl is internationally recognized and has showrooms in Milan, Paris and New York City. The raw ingredients of the products are the renewable textile fibres obtained from animals or plants in nature. Natural fibres create a pleasant domestic atmosphere, contributing warmth and comfort. They are durable, retain their looks with age and in view of the authenticity of their origin are products that inspire confidence. Another important consideration is that they can easily be disposed of. The range of materials used are extensive, currently Ruckstuhl uses coir, sisal, jute, cotton, virgin wool and goat hair. Ruckstuhl's natural fibre carpets are characterised by the harmonious linkage of functionality and aesthetics, as well as the consistent statement that results from the material, structure and colouring. With their lively structures, and their unique selection of colours, they offer a mode of floor design that makes a timeless impression and is based on understatement. Ruckstuhl carpets can be used either in a domestic setting or in public buildings. Highly regarded companies like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hermès, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuiton and Mercedes-Benz rely on Ruckstuhl carpets for the furnishing of their offices, conference rooms and shops.

Products & Designers

Ruckstuhl's main assortment is divided up into five collections, based on the most important raw materials used: coconut, sisal, wool, linen and wood. Collaborates have been established with designers such as Atelier Oi, Aude Genton, Jack Lenor Larsen, Zumbühl + Birsfelder, Matteo Thun and Alfredo Häberli.

Collection: Coconut

The fibres come from the protective coat that surrounds the coconut. The machine-spun, long- pile yarn comes from Sri Lanka, and is exceptionally resistant to wear. Ruckstuhl can look back on a long tradition of processing coconut fibre. Since the foundation of the company, Ruckstuhl has been weaving carpets from coconut fibres - and today we are the only firm in Switzerland to do so.

Collection: Sisal

The fibres come from the leaf of the sisal agave, which originally comes from Mexico. Today sisal is most commonly cultivated in Tanzania, Madagascar and Kenya. For reasons of quality, Ruckstuhl's sisal comes from Tanzania and Kenya. The yarn is spun in Europe. Sisal has an appealing shine. Thanks to its even structure and colour, it lends itself well to dyeing.

Collection: Wool

Wool is the most important textile fibre derived from animals. It has been used by man since time immemorial, first as felt, and later in the form of spun yarns. It is elastic and impervious to dirt, and compensates for climatic factors better than any other fibre. The wool comes for the most part from New Zealand, and is spun in Europe.

Collection: Linen

Linen fibres are derived from the stem of the linen plant. Linen materials are used above all for washables and for clothing. Linen is only rarely used in the form of carpet fibre. Linen is an exclusive material with a distinctive shine. Ruckstuhl's linen yarn comes from both Europe and Egypt.

Collection: Wood

Wood is a traditional material, which has been used as flooring since time immemorial in a great variety of forms - from rough planking to delicately designed parquet. It is so versatile that it can even be used as a 'carpet'. The wood used by Ruckstuhl is a renewable raw material that grows in Switzerland, easy to maintain and capable of withstanding rough wear. Beech, oak and walnut woods are used.

Acoustic panel: Pannello

Hard floor coverings are increasingly coming into fashion - both in offices and public buildings, and in exclusive domestic settings. This can result in acoustic problems. Ruckstuhl joined with the internationally well-known architect and designer Matteo Thun of Milan and the acoustics specialist Dr Christian Nocke, to look for a solution. This was to be based on state of the art in both spatial acoustics and product design. This was how the highly varied collection Pannello was launched on the market in 2007. Pannello has outstanding sound-absorption properties. It can also serve as a projection surface or pinboard, or be used as an element in interior design. Made of pure virgin wool felt in subdued colours, the surface texture creates a warm and harmonious atmosphere. The restrained and yet expressive form, together with the typological variety, makes it possible for Pannello to be used in all kinds of settings.
