Hartford, Connecticut , Bischoff graduated fromBoston University , then headed for Hollywood, where he began his career in 1923 by producingcomedy shorts. He drew the attention ofColumbia Pictures headHarry Cohn , who hired him to supervise the studio'sfeature film productions. In 1932, he moved toWarner Bros. , but returned to Columbia in 1941. His last film was the "The Strangler" (1964).Bischoff died in
