Karl Dalhouse

Karl Dalhouse was General Secretary of the Kingston YMCA, Jamaica from the 1960s to the late 1970s. In this role he had responsibility for all the Y's activities but is particularly remembered for his work with the Y's competitive swimming team, the Y Speedos. He died tragically young when his MPV was hit head-on by a dumper truck as he drove from the Y to the National Stadium Pool to train the the team [The Daily Gleaner (see).] .

A few years prior to his death, Mr Dalhouse had instigated an annual, international [Many members of the Speedos come from the poorer areas of Kingston and, for them, these meets may be their first opportunity to travel outside the island.] swimming meet (initially with clubs in Nassau, Bahamas and Bermuda) which continues to this day [ [http://www.swimjamaica.com/Press_2007/KD07%20Press%20Release.htm Swim Jamaica press release.] ] and has been renamed in his honour: The Karl Dalhouse International Memorial Swim Meet.

Mr Dalhouse was also a leader in the Rotary Club of Jamaica.
