Jean Nkuete

Jean Nkuete

Jean Nkuete (born 1944 [http://www.spm.gov.cm/showgouv.php?module=showindividu&lang=fr&pers=149 Cameroonian government page on Nkuete] fr.] ) is a Cameroonian politician who is currently Deputy Prime Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development.

Nkuete was born in Balessing in Menoua Department. He worked in the Planning Ministry from 1969 to 1975 as Head of the Division of the Control and the Execution of the Plan and Assistant Director of Planning; he then worked under Prime Minister Paul Biya from 1975 to 1980 as Director of Economic Affairs and Technical Advisor to the Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.

After Biya became President, Nkuete was named Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidency on April 13 1983, serving in that position until he was named Secretary-General of the Presidency on November 21 1986. He left this position in 1988, when he became Director of the Douala Agency of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC); he held that position until 1999, when he became Executive Secretary of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC). After seven years there, he was appointed as Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development in the government named on September 22 2006.

In a cabinet reshuffle on September 7 2007, Nkuete was promoted to the rank of Deputy Prime Minister, while remaining in charge of agriculture and rural development; [ [http://www.cameroon-info.net/cmi_show_news.php?id=20388 "Remaniement: La Vidéo"] , cameroon-info.net, September 7, 2007 fr.] he was installed as Deputy Prime Minister on September 10. Nkuete was a member of the Central Committee and the Political Bureau of the ruling Cameroon National Union and remained in these positions when the party was transformed into the Cameroonian People's Democratic Movement (RDPC) in 1985. He left the Political Bureau in 1989, but remains a member of the Central Committee.
