Robert Julius Tommy Jacobsen (
4 June 1912 inCopenhagen –26 January 1993 inTaagelund ) was a Danish sculptor and painter born inCopenhagen . Jacobsen was one of the most important Danish artists of the twentieth century.He lived in France from 1947 - 1969.From 1962 - 1981 he was professor at the
Kunstakademie der Bildenden Künste ,Munich .In 1969 he moved toTågelund , west ofEgtved ,Denmark .From 1976 to 1985 he was professor at theRoyal Danish Academy of Art , Copenhagen.From 1986 to 1991 he worked with
Jean Clareboudt to create a sculpture park atTørskind Gravel Pit near Egtved andVejle . He worked closely together with his friend and son in law, Bernard Leauté. Jacobsen also had a connection to Asger Jorn and the CoBrA artists, but he never was a member of their group.He died in 1993 at home in Tågelund.
The Danish Robert award was named after him.It is planned to raise a 60 meter high sculpture in Copenhagen in the year 2012, financed by Robert Jacobsen's foundation.
