André Frossard was son of Louis-Oscar Frossard, one of the historic founders of the
Parti communiste français , who was leader of the party for 31 years. His parents raised him anatheist , but when he was 20 years old he converted toRoman Catholicism . He was baptized onJuly 8 1935 , in the "chapelle des religieuses de l’Adoration". He was also one of the closest French friends of PopeJohn Paul II .André Frossard was elected to the
Académie française in 1987 to Seat 2. He succeededRené de Castries ; seat 2 is currently occupied by the writerHector Bianciotti .Bibliography
