Madeline, sometimes known as Madeline Fogg [ [http://www.bookpage.com/9910bp/john_bemelmans_marciano.html BookPage Interview October 1999: John Bemelmans Marciano ] ] , is the protagonist and title character of the children's book series by Ludwig Bemelmans. She is a student at a boarding school (retconned as "an orphan in an orphanage" for the 1998 movie), the smallest one in her class, yet the leader, of the girls, and appears 7 or 8 years old. Hatty Jones played the role of Madeline in the live-action adaptation of the series.

In the first book, she suffered from appendicitis.
