José Júlio de Carvalho Peyroteo Martins Couceiro, known simply as José Couceiro (born 4 October 1962 in Lisbon, Portugal) is a football manager, that despite his young age already served as president for the SJPF (Portuguese Football Players' Union) and manager in the Sporting Public company. He is a known fan of the Lisbon side, and related to club legend and member of "The Five Violins" Fernando Peyroteo.

Football

As a manager, Couceiro's career is marked with the relegation of F.C. Alverca in the 2003-04 season. He bounced back with a very good run with Vitória de Setúbal, and won the best portuguese coach prize. Then José Couceiro signed for F.C. Porto on 1 February 2005. Couceiro then managed Belenenses of Lisbon during the 2005-06 season. In August 2006 he was appointed manager of the Portugal national under-21 football team, reaching good results in the UEFA championship.

He was then appointed the head coach of FBK Kaunas, the Lithuanian A Lyga club controlled by Vladimir Romanov, in July 2008. On the 5th of August, 2008 FBK Kaunas, playing in a Champions League play-off match, beat 2007 UEFA Cup finalists Rangers FC of Scotland 2-1 on aggregate to qualify for the third round for the first time in their history [McMillan, Martin. Family

Fernando Peyroteo, former football player, is Couceiro's grand-uncle. António César de Vasconcelos Correia, 1st Viscount and 1st Count de Torres Novas and 93rd Governor of India, was his great-great-great-uncle. Augusto de Vasconcelos was his second cousin three times removed.

His father, an engineer also named José Martins Couceiro, born in Angola in 1928 and deceased on September 30, 2005, was the first chairman of the former Clube Académico de Coimbra in 1974. Married to Clara, he is the father of three daughters, Catarina (b. 1991), Sofia (b. 1994) and Beatriz (b. 1996).
