Frederick L. A. Grauer is Senior Advisor to Barclays Global Investors ("BGI"), and was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BGI and its predecessors for 16 years. He is also a private investor focused on early stage ventures, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of [http://www.financialcrossing.com Financial Crossing] , a financial technology company focused on liability management solutions, [http://www.itpcorporation.com Integrated Trade Processing] , an information technology company automating and integrating middle and back office functions for financial institutions, and [http://www.purfresh.com Purfresh] , a

Fred is a Director of American Century Investments.A pioneer in index funds, Fred was recognized by Global Custodian Magazine as one of the 100 most important contributors to modern finance in the 20th century.
His not-for-profit focus is on education, as Trustee of [http://www.commonfund.org/Commonfund Commonfund] and The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, and as Advisor to the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He is a former Trustee of Menlo School and the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
Fred has a Ph.D. in Business from Stanford University and an M.A. in Finance from University of Chicago. He is a former professor of finance at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia University.
