TDVision

TDVision is a company that owns several patents and proprietary system architectures in 3D video technology. The company was founded in 2001 by Manuel Novelo in Mexico and moved to the United States in 2004.

The company's position is that there are problems with current 3D display technologies, such as the lack of compatibility with 2D existing pipelines, side effects due to visual artifacts and eye strain. The company designed a stereoscopic system that emulated human vision to reduce some of these side effects. cite web | title = Human Factors of 3D Displays|url=http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/summary/112222545/SUMMARY?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0 |accessdate=2007-09-07] This included a new codec called TDVCodec that was designed to work with current hardware, such as DVDs, set top boxes and satellite receiversFact|date=August 2007. TDVision's technology allows true 3D content to be acquired directly with their TDVCam product. The content can then be stored and deployed in existing digital video systems using TDVCodec and processed by an ordinary PC.

Applications

TDVision is being adopted by several military, aerospacecite web | title = Northrop Grumman Rainstorm Project|url=http://rainstorm.northropgrumman.com/news.htm |accessdate=2007-09-07] and medical institutions cite web | title = 3-DETC stereoscopic training|url=http://www.3-detc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=48 |accessdate=2007-09-07] because its backward compatibility, human-eye emulation, portability and high definition rates. Comparison to other stereo related technologies

Autostereoscopy, LCD shutter glasses, polarization, Circular polarization, field sequential, 3D vertical interlaced, 3D horizontal (pixel) interlaced and Holography are based on optical methods to trick the eye or split an image into Left and Right. This is not natural to the human eye since humans perceive constant, uninterrupted images. When the brain perceives flickering, overlap, dramatic color polarizations or visual artifacts this can cause side effects including headaches, eye strain, and dizziness. The company's technology provides the user with 3D continuous videostreamsFact|date=August 2007 at high resolution and provides a large equivalent screen size allowing the user to perceive the information as real images. The brain does not perceives any difference with respect to real life and does not presents any side effect allowing long periods of usageFact|date=August 2007.
