J-receptors respond to events such aspulmonary edema ,pulmonary emboli ,pneumonia , andbarotrauma , which cause a decrease in oxygenation and thus lead to an increase inventilation /respiration.The stimulation of the J-receptors causes areflex increase in breathing rate, and is also thought to be involved in the sensation ofdyspnea , the subjective sensation of difficulty breathing.
