World Straight Pool Championship

The World Straight Pool Championship is an annual pocket billiards (pool) competition held in New Brunswick, New Jersey, since 2006. It is the current global professional title for straight pool (also known as 14.1 continuous), and is organized by Dragon Promotions, in part to restore the game's popularity in the United States. ] Unlike other world championships in pool where men and women participate in separate divisions, they can compete simultaneously in this event. As of 2008, the total purse is $57,600 where the winner takes $14,000.

Format

Group stages

All 64 players are divided into 8 groups where they play in round-robin format. Each Cuegloss|Match|match in this round is a Cuegloss|Race|race to 100 points. The leading 4 players in each group proceed to the next round.cite web
