Saïd Sadi

Saïd Sadi (kabyle: Saεid Saεdi) (born 26 August 1947 in Aghribs, near Azazga) is an Algerian psychiatrist and Berberist. He created one of the first Algerian human rights organization. His political activities landed him in jail several times during the FLN one-party régime (1962-1988).

He founded the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD) in 1989 on the basis of secularism and cultural pluralism; the party has found a niche as a Liberal party espousing Kabyle Berber grievances.

He was candidate for the first Algerian presidential election, 1995 and got 9%, mainly in kabylie where he scored 85% of the votes. He boycotted the 1999 presidential elections but participated in the Algerian presidential election, 2004 but had less than 2% because 95% Kabyles boycotted these elections.
