Scull Shoals is a
ghost town in Greene County, Georgia,United States .Scull Shoals is located halfway between Athens and Greensboro on the
Oconee River , just north of whereGeorgia State Route 15 now crosses the river. Recent archaeological findings suggest that it was the site of aTrans-Oconee Republic fort built byElijah Clarke in the late 18th Century. The location of agrist mill , Scull Shoals grew into a thriving industrial community during the early 19th century. After disastrous flooding in the 1870s the town went into decline and by the mid-20th century Scull Shoals had become aghost town . Ruins, including the foundations and walls of several buildings, still exist. The "Friends of Scull Shoals" organization maintains the site.External links
