St Mildred Bread Street was a church in Bread Street Ward of the City of London dedicated to the 7th century Saint Mildred the Virgin, daughter of Merewald, Sub-king of the West Mercians [ [http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=770 Mildred’s details] ] . The church was founded in the 13th century ["Sovereign City of London Churches", Betjeman,J. (Pitkin, Andover 1967 reprinted 1992) ISBN 0853725659] , had a vestry and court yard bequeathed in 1428 and a stained glass montage added in 1628 ["Vanished Churches of the City of London", Huelin,G (Guildhall Library Publications, London, 1996) ISBN 0900422424] . A prosperous parish [ [http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=32055 "Inhabitants of London in 1638: St. Mildred in the Poultry", The inhabitants of London in 1638 (1931), pp. 158-59] accessed: 23 September 2007] ,it was totally destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 and rebuilt to a design by Sir Christopher Wren in 1683 at a cost of £3,705 13s 6d [ "The Churches of the City of London" Reynolds,H. (Bodley Head 1922)] .
