Ed Tilley

Ed Tilley

Edward (Ed) James Tilley (born in Warrington, England, 21 January, 1984), moved through the ranks of international kart racing before moving to cars at the age of 16. After 5 years of racing "one offs" due to budget constraints, Tilley signed with Formula 3 team Promatecme, the team responsible for Jenson Button's Formula 3 success.

Two weeks before the start of the 2006 Lloyds TSB British Formula 3 Championship, Tilley's sister, Alison, succumbed to cancer, leading to him forfeiting his place in the team to focus on family commitments.

In the 12 months following his sister's death, Tilley joined forces with Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper, Peter Enckelman, to form Encke Sport. Enckelman stayed in the background of the team and appointed Tilley as team principal. The team competed in the 2007 Dunlop SP SportMaxx Series. On 10 December 2007, Tilley and Enckelman agreed that Tilley would step down from his position at Encke Sport, to avoid a conflict of interest as he pursues his own motor sport career.
