$50,000 a Minute was an unsold game show pilot created by Bob Stewart; two pilots were made. Geoff Edwards was the host with Meredith MacRae as his co-host, with Jack Clark as the announcer.

Gameplay

Two teams-each composed of one celebrity and one contestant try to associate words to one another (Geoff and Meredith played with the teams). A celebrity looks in to a screen to see an answer. The host reads the first part of the question, and the celebrity has to improvise the second part. The contestant then tries to guess the correct answer; the round is complete when the team gives a total of 7 correct answers. The first team plays with no time limit, however, the second team tries to get 7 answers faster than the first team. The faster team is awarded one "star," and two consecutive stars win the match.

The bonus round consists of nine sets of initials and the celebrity tries to convey clues in order to get the answer. Each correct answer was worth $200. A team that gets all nine within 60 seconds won a larger cash prize, starting $10,000 for the first time going to the bonus round, and increasing by $10,000 each time, up to a maximum of $50,000.

Episode status

Both pilots are known to exist, and are on the trading circuit.
