March 6 ,1940 , Flushing, New York, United States –July 9 ,1987 , New York, New York, United States), an attorney, was a co-founder of both the New York CityLesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Services Center andGay Men's Health Crisis . Theprivate foundation that bears his name is one of the oldest and largestLGBT -focused foundations in the country.Rapoport attended P.S. 107 in New York City, the
Horace Mann School andCornell University . He graduated cum laude fromColumbia University Law School in 1965, and later received an LL.M. in tax law fromNew York University School of Law .Rapoport died of
AIDS atNew York University Medical Center in 1987. His estate of roughly $8 million was used to establish The Paul Rapoport Foundation, Inc., [http://paulrapoportfoundation.org] which at Rapoport's direction gives toLGBT and HIV/AIDS causes in the New York metropolitan area.Sources
