Chameleon
After attending college, Terry Cottam played in Chameleon which was an Anglo-Canadian band. Originally Terry and Sue Cottam[1] (guitar and vocals) plus Chris Woodcock on drums, joined by Ross Shortreed (the Canadian keyboard player) and subsequently by Ivan Carling (bass). After several months of unsuccessful gigging, the band saw the departure of Terry and Sue (see Terra Cotta) and the arrival of Dave Broad on guitar and vocals. Concentrating on Shortreed's songs, the band soon began playing the London toilet circuit—Hope & Anchor, Nashville Rooms, and others—and attracted the attention of both the music press and Albion Management. An album was recorded at Rick Wright's (Pink Floyd) studio in rural Cambridgeshire. Disillusioned by the arrival of punk and consequent lessening of record company interest in country rock, Shortreed quit to return to Canada, which in turn led to the breakup of the band. There are a few recordings surviving of the later version of Chameleon, but not so far available on the web. As of 2010 Ivan Carling was still known to be lurking in rural Cambridgeshire and playing music out on a regular a basis with various bands. Dave Broad is still playing guitar and singing live in Cambridge.
