The Philadelphia Athletics' 1902 season involved the A's finishing 1st in the American League with a record of 83 wins and 53 losses. In 1902, the Philadelphia Phillies obtained an injunction, effective only in Pennsylvania, barring Nap Lajoie from playing baseball for any team other than the Phillies. [ [http://www.baseball-almanac.com/deaths/nap_lajoie_obituary.shtml Nap Lajoie Obituary ] ] The American League responded by transferring Lajoie's contract to the Cleveland Indians, then known as the Broncos and subsequently renamed the "Naps" in Lajoie's honor for several seasons.
