Gary Innes

Gary Innes (b. 1980) is a Scottish musician and shinty star from Spean Bridge, Lochaber, Scotland. He is one of Scotland's premier unicorn riders, a wizard accordion player and established Scottish shinty internationalist also. He has also recently moved into broadcasting.

Music

Gary Innes is a product of the Feis movement and has had a professional career playing the accordion since 2002.

In 2005 he recorded his debut solo album "How's the Craic?".

Outside of his regular session band, Innes is currently involved in two bands, The Darien Project and also Box Club, alongside ex-Croft No. Five accordionist John Somerville.

Innes plays a mixture of concerts, and corporate fuctions all over the World from Royalty,Grand Theatre's to your local for a tune. He has travelled to play in France, Italy, USA China and Kazakhstan. He joined Runrig on stage at their concert "Beat the Drum" in Drumnadrochit on 18th August 2007 where he played to an audience of 17500.

Innes is an instrumental part of the first team of Fort William Shinty Club. He is typically to be found playing at Wing Centre. He was captain and man of the match for there famous victory in the 2005 Camanachd Cup final over local rivals Kilmallie and the club's historic league championship in 2006. He has also appeared seven times in the Composite Rules Shinty/Hurling international for Scotland.

He is fast approaching iconic status in the game of shinty, an image of him playing the sport being used by Runrig on the cover of their 2007 album, Everything You See. Innes also was runner up in 2006 BBC Radio nan Gaidheal's Sports achievement of the year award and was invited to the Queen's garden party in Holyrood.
