Robert Ford is a Democratic member of the South Carolina Senate, representing the 42nd District since 1992.

2008 presidential primary

A week before the primary election in South Carolina, Ford, an African-American and a Democrat, announced his support for United States Senator Hillary Clinton. [cite web|title= Clinton's South Carolina Organization|publisher=Democracy in action 2008|url=http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2008/clinton/clintonorgsc.html|accessdate=2008-01-27] Clinton's chief opponent, United States Senator Barack Obama won the primary by a 2-1 margin garnering more than 80% of the African-American vote.
