Maximilian Gouvan Townley

Maximilian Gouvan Townley (22 June 1864-12 December 1942), was a member of the British House of Commons representing Mid Bedfordshire as a Coalition Conservative.

Max was the 5th son of S Townley of Fulbourne Manor Cambridge and was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was JP for Cambridge and in 1918 became Member of Parliament for Mid Bedfordshire, as a Coalition Unionist. He lost the seat at the next election in November 1922 and unsuccessfully contested the Isle of Ely in December 1923. He married Ellen Sydney St John, daughter of St Andrew St John, 16th Baron St John of Bletso in 1902. They had no family and lived at Monadh Liadh, Aviemore, Inverness.
