Johnson Central High School is the public high school of
Johnson County, Kentucky . Situated inPaintsville , it holds over 1,000 students in grades 9-12. The school was recently featured as a US News and World Report America's Top High School, receiving a bronze award.Johnson Central High School is well-known for its football, basketball, baseball,
Future Problem Solving and academic teams. In addition, it hosts several successful clubs includingFBLA ,DECA ,HOSA ,FCCLA ,Beta, SkillsUSA, STLP, andFEA . JCHS's FPS team is the only school, internationally, to win three international championship titles. Additionally, its DECA Quiz Bowl team were state champions in 2007 and 2008, it's academic team was runner up in the Governor's Cup in 2007 and 3rd in 2008, and the school recently achieved other prestigious recognitions.The school is home to a new Career Technology Center, consisting of the business, vocational, and agriculture classrooms, and 21st Century Classrooms.
All classrooms, through the 21st Century Classroom movement, have plasma television, infrared microphones, surround-sound speaker systems, and 360-degree full-color projectors.
The school is home to a Freshman Academy, a large Honors Program, and several
Advanced Placement courses. In addition, several duel-credit classes are offered.Johnson Central High School met all of the
No Child Left Behind standards in 2006 and 2007.Johnson Central High school was featured as
WSAZ 's first 'Cool School', gaining that credit in 2007.The rivalry between Johnson Central High School and
Paintsville High School , both in the same county, is considered to be one of the biggest high school rivalries in the state, most notably shown through the football game known as the Apple Bowl, a festivity associated with theKentucky Apple Festival .External links
