The List of Super Robot Wars games by system provides an index of titles in Banpresto's Super Robot Wars franchise, organized by the system for which they were originally released. Years listed indicate the time of the games' first availability; some titles have later been re-released on other systems.

Nintendo Game Boy/Nintendo Game Boy Color

**Series Premiered: "Getter Robo", "Getter Robo G", "Mobile Suit Gundam", "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam", "Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ", "", "Mobile Suit Gundam F91", "Mazinger Z", "Great Mazinger" (Translated by AGTP)
**The first game of the series, which only features Universal Century Gundam series, Mazinger series and Getter Robo series. These titles continue to appear in almost all Super Robot Wars productions (though there are exceptions). It is the only independent series that features a multiplayer mode, which is not done again until the release of "Super Robot Wars XO".

**A remake of the "2nd Super Robot Wars", featuring an updated interface, similar to the "4th Super Robot Wars".

*Super Robot Taisen - Link Battler
**Released On: October 1, 1999
**Appearing on the Nintendo Game Boy Color, it is closer to a monster trainer game, such as "Pokemon", than a tactical role-playing game. Linking a completed game to "Super Robot Wars 64" with the Nintendo 64's "Transfer Pak" unlocks several exclusive units and characters in the latter.

**The first title to feature recruitable characters, and the first to feature a Banpresto Original character and mech: the Cybuster, piloted by Masaki Andoh. Ported to the Sony Playstation as part of the "Super Robot Wars Complete Box" and to the Nintendo Game Boy Advance as an exclusive "Famicom Mini" game. It is also available as a bonus, with the purchase of "Super Robot Wars GC" on the Nintendo Gamecube.

It is the first Super Robot Wars to allow players to upgrade weapons. Ported to the Sony PlayStation as part of "Super Robot Wars Complete Box".

**Released On: March 17, 1995
**The first title to feature a Banpresto Original protagonist, along with separate real robot and super robot paths. It is the first Super Robot Wars to feature items that can be equipped to a unit, to improve its performance, or restore its HP or EN. Additionally, most stages contain hidden items or money on the map, which can be collected by moving a unit onto the items' locations and the first title to allow players to manually decide whether to counterattack during enemy turns. The first appearance of Shin Getter Robo in any medium. Ported to the Sony PlayStation as the "4th Super Robot Wars Scramble".

*Super Robot Taisen Gaiden: Masō Kishin - The Lord Of Elemental
**Released On: March 22, 1996
**The first Super Robot Wars title to give original characters the spotlight, exclusively. This particular title follows the storyline of the "Masō Kishin" and its cast. It is the first to feature non-superdeformed graphics, unlike most Super Robot Wars titles. It is also the only regular game where a unit's elevation and the direction it is facing at the end of its turn are important. Does not include other real robot or super robot series.

*Super Robot Spirits
**Released On: July 17, 1997
**The first 3D fighting Super Robot Wars, featuring non-super deformed robots. It maarks the first appearance of the character, "Levi Tolar", and her machine, the "Judecca".

*Super Robot Wars 64
**Released On: October 29, 1999
**Uses non-animated 2D sprites over rendered 3D backgrounds during battle animations. Secret units can be acquired by linking with "Super Robot Wars Link Battler", and the first to feature multiple-unit combination attacks.

Original Generation is the first handheld Super Robot Wars to feature animated attacks and the equipment system, which allows players to change weapons between real robots. It is also the first Super Robot Wars to ever be released officially in North America by Atlus on August 8, 2006, as "Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation".

**The first Super Robot Wars to feature the "Chain Attack" system, where enemy units lined up in a row can be struck down simultaneously with designated melee attacks. It is also notorious for its bias towards real robots, in that super robots will take the same amount of damage as reals do, regardless of their defensive rating.

**The first handheld Super Robot Wars to incorporate the "Favorite Series" system, introduced in "Super Robot Wars MX". It is the only title where the Getter Robo franchise does not make an appearance, alongside Universal Century Gundam and television-animated Mazinger titles. This game also marks the debut of characters from animated series that exclusively used "battle armors".

**Released On: January 26, 1996
**A remake of the "4th Super Robot Wars", featuring voice acting and CG movies for the first time in the Super Robot Wars franchise.

*Shin Super Robot Wars
**Released On: December 27, 1996
**Features full-sized graphics (besides "Super Robot Wars Gaiden: Masō Kishin - The Lord Of Elemental", this is the only title to do so), as well as the debut of the Banpresto Originals "SRX" storyline.

*Super Robot Wars Complete Box
**Released On: June 10, 1999
**A compilation of the remakes of the "2nd Super Robot Wars", the "3rd Super Robot Wars", and "Super Robot Wars EX", using the same style as "Super Robot Wars F" and "Super Robot Wars F Final". The games were released separately, and were compiled into the first disc of the "Complete Box". The second disc, an encyclopedia, includes a collection of cut scenes and voice data from the first game, and a two player versus mode.

*Super Robot Wars Alpha
**Released On: May 25, 2000
**The first Super Robot Wars to feature fully-animated attacks and a more complex plot. It is also the first to include the "Skill Point (Battle Mastery)" system, where decisions made in and out of battle can affect the game's difficulty later and one's chances of receiving more powerful units and items.

**A remake of all three chapters of "Super Robot Wars Compact 2", with the added inclusion of "Martian Successor Nadesico", "Mobile Fighter G Gundam", and the Banpresto Original character Einst Alchemie.

**Released On: March 27, 2003
**The first Super Robot Wars that uses the "Squad System", which allows the player to arrange squads (up to 4 units) to participate in battles.

**The first Super Robot Wars to include the "Favorite Series" system, which increases the upgrade limit and experience gain for all robots and pilots from a selected series. Originally intended to be a direct sequel to "Super Robot Wars Impact".

*3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha
**Released On: August 28, 2005
**The end of the Super Robot Wars Alpha series. This is the second time a video game franchise not owned by Banpresto or Bandai is included in a Super Robot Wars game ("Virtual On" is produced by "Sega"). The first time is G-Breaker in "Super Robot Wars Alpha" on the Sega Dreamcast, however, since G-Breaker is an original title loosely based on a crossover game, Virtual On can be claimed as the first independent non-Banpresto/Namco Bandai game debut on for the Super Robot Wars installments.

*Super Robot Wars Original Generations
**Released On: June 28, 2007
**An enhanced remake of the first two Original Generation titles, with several extra stages included to show the goings-on of other members of the cast, as well as 11 new stages upon completion of certain requirements. The remake introduces the "Twin Battle System", which allows for two battles to be conducted against the same enemy by two allies simultaneously, and the introduction of a seventh Spirit Command, known as the "Twin Command".

*Super Robot Wars Scramble Commander the 2nd
**Released On: November 1st, 2007
**Series Premiered: "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny", "Shinkon Gattai Godannar!!", "Macross Zero", ""

*Super Robot Wars Original Generation Gaiden
**Released On: December 27th, 2007
**A direct sequel to "Super Robot Wars Original Generations", it details the events of the bonus segment in Original Generations. Also available is the "Shuffler Battle Mode", an all-new mini card game, based on the original characters and mechs, and the inclusion of a "Free Battle Mode", where players can set their own scenario by placing allied or enemy mechs on the battlefield of their choosing.

**The first Super Robot Wars title to be created under Namco Bandai (not including spin-offs, ports and remakes) and currently has the largest number of debuting series in a single game. It is hinted Z will be the start of an all-new series, similar to the Super Robot Wars Alpha series.

Infamous for enemies with high evasion rates, making it difficult for even real robots to land hits, and the fixture of the "save and load manipulation" trick, allowing the same battle result to be produced even if the game is reset and reloaded.
