Rooftop Highway

The Rooftop Highway is a proposed highway located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of New York. If completed, the route will probably follow the U.S. Route 11 corridor along an approximate 175 mile (282 km) long route from Watertown to Champlain. The highway will connect Interstate 81 and Interstate 87 and will run on the south side of and parallel to the United States-Canada border.

A study called the North Country Transportation Study Action Plan and Final Technical Report suggests that this limited access road along U.S. 11 would likely be upgraded to freeway status in order to improve constrained transit systems due to a lack of infrastructure throughout the area. However, this plan will take time as it is not expected to occur in the near future.Fact|date=September 2007

Environmentalists are not pleased with the proposed project as the process can potentially impact and disturb the rural nature of the entire corridor.
