Tarkarli (Marathi: तारकर्ली) is a village in Malvan Taluka, district Sindhudurg. It is Tourist Destination in Coastal Maharashtra, an attractive beach. From there, one can see the famous naval fort Sindhudurg built by Shivaji Maharaj. This village is famous for its Ramnavmi Utsav. Here in Mapurush Temple the celebration of Ramnavmi is arranged every year. To mark this occasion there are various dramas (Marathi Natak) are arranged.

This place has gained prominence because of its long and narrow stretch of beach with pristine waters. On a fairly clear day, one can see the bed unto a depth of 20 ft. It presents a panoramic view with tall 'Shuru' trees in the background. The wide river, the beautiful sailboats and the tiny wonderful islands hamlets situated on the riverbank, add to the picturesque beauty of Tarkarli. Sighting dolphins is not a rare event here. This place fishes throughout the year, the sea during summer and winter and back-waters during the monsoon since the sea water enters this area and also due to safety reasons.

Geography

Tarkarli is situated 8 KM south of Malvan and 546 KM from Mumbai on the west coast of India, at the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea.

How to reach there

*By Air: Nearest airport is Dabolim (Goa)
*By Rail: Following options exist:
** Sindhudurg, but all trains don't stop there and also connectivity by means of bus and rickshaw are not very good.
** Kudal on the Konkan Railway. This is around 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Malvan. Buses are available from and to Malvan after every 30 minutes. Frequency is slow in the evening.
** Kankavli on the Konkan Railway. This is around 1 hour 30 minutes by road from Malvan. Buses are available from and to Malvan after every 30 minutes. Frequency is slow in the evening.
*By Road: Tarkarli is easily accessible from Malvan by bus and rickshaw, which is 546 KM away from Mumbai. Daily private, luxury and State Transport bus service available from various parts of Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune to Malvan.

*Rosary Paradise: One of the best locations to stay, its around 10 minutes walk from MTDC. Its right on the beach which makes it a unique place to stay at since no other resort has that. Rooms have their own balcony or terrace, some of them big enough to hold a small party. Some rooms are also equipped with a small kitchen if you intend to stay there for a longer duration. Its advisable to book well in advance since this place is always occupied. The best part about this place is that you always have your privacy even if the place is full, reason being that all the rooms are very well spaced out. Don't miss out the amazing malvan style cooked food by the family.
*Manali Resort: Front faces the backwaters while the back of the resort opens up on the beach. Managed by a very enterprising young lady named Reshma who's ready to help you out with all your queries irrespective whether you are her guest or not, an encyclopedia with respect to Tarkarli and Malvan. They have boats which take you out to watch dolphins and other rides.
